Les 2 Alpes is one of the most visited ski resorts by skiers from all over the world. Due to proximity, height, skiable kilometers, snow quality due to its northern orientation and a glacier, the Spanish market constitutes a not inconsiderable part of the cake for l'Isère resort.
The ski area of Les 2 Alpes opens on December 3 and the Ski Passes are already on sale -with a special price for the first opening weekend- and it does so with important news.
Regarding ski lifts, the new telemix -a mix of gondola lifts and chairs-is inaugurated, replacing the Vallée Blanche chairlift. The goal is to reach the summit at 2100 meters and the Super Venosc gondola (built in 2022).
The telemix will be more comfortable than the chairlift and accessible for pedestrians and beginners, and will allow faster access for twice as many people in the same time as before.
The construction of the new ski lift goes hand in hand with the creation of a green slope between Vallee Blanche and Pied-Moutet (2,100 to 1,600 meters) which makes this low-altitude ski area accessible to all.
Les 2 Alpes, one of the most visited ski resorts by skiers from all over the world, is renewing its snow front
All these works are part of a macro-project that began in 2021 and will culminate in 2024 and that involves the entire snow front, with the remodeling of the bottom of the slopes to allow the flow of skiers to be distributed naturally.
In the winter of 2022, the Vikings ski area was remodeled with a new chairlift and a conveyor belt (south area directly on the slopes).
For this winter of 2023, the Champamé beginners area (entrance to the resort, north ski area) is modernized with the installation of a ski lift and a conveyor belt that will facilitate the connection between Les 2 Alpes 1800 and the rest of the resort.
The larger work, however, will not be released for another two seasons (24-25). This is the replacement of the Jandri Express gondola by a latest generation 3S model, “the only one of its kind in France”, according to Fabrice Boutet, general manager of the SATA Group.
The new gondola lift, more comfortable and reliable in weather conditions, will allow skiers to go up from the base of Les 2 Alpes to the high peaks at 3,200 m with an intermediate one at 2,600 m.
Travel time to the top of the resort will be reduced to 15 minutes, instead of the current 40 minutes.
The layout of the line will consist of 7 pylons instead of the current 15, in order to reduce visual clutter and will be able to absorb three times as many users, considerably reducing queues.
The first section of this redevelopment is anticipated to be completed in December 2024 and the entire 3S gondola project to be completed in December 2025.
