The ski resort of Sierra Nevada has 33 million in losses and an accumulated debt of 20 million euros. But this has failed to intimidate the current leaders of Cetursa, a company that manages the tracks and lifts of the resort for which they have designed an improvement and modernization plan . Ski lifts will be renewed, another 100 artificial snow cannons will be installed, a face lift will be done to Pradollano, and all that without having to go to bank financing.
This was stated on Wednesday by the Minister of Finance, Industry and Energy, Juan Bravo and the Director of Cetursa, Jesús Ibáñez , who have assured that the first work will begin within a few months, as soon as the ski season ends, and that will lengthen for 10 years. By 2030 Sierra Nevada must have changed radically .
The ambitious project, which lasts for several legislatures, so it must be continued by the next political representatives of the Board, not only wants to modernize the resort, but make it more environmentally sustainable . It will seek, for example, to offer discounts to skiers arriving by car , something that is already done in some ski resorts in the United States. It also proposes eliminating the carbon footprint, sustainable mobility in Pradollano, efficiency in water resources management and landscape improvements.
In the area of snow produced , the network is extended to the lower slopes and key areas of the resort, and old canyons will be replaced by the latest generation , which produce more snow in less time and with less energy expenditure.
On slopes and ski lifts, the plan will propose actions to take advantage of and optimize the ski domain, renew chairlifts and study the installation of other new devices that allow a better distribution of users through the ski domain.
In another order of intentions, a game of 4 million euros will be allocated to improve the social plan with the objective of facilitating the practice of sport for groups of disabled people or students. Another objective is to improve access to the Güéjar Sierra and Mochachil roads.
The Granada resort plans to close a great ski season, similar or higher in records than last year. At the moment, 412,000 skiers and 60,000 visitors have passed through the Sierra Nevada facilities.
