Now, from the newspaper Diari d'Andorra they report that two regional subsidiaries of Iberia and Air France are negotiating with the Government of Andorra to operate with fixed routes from La Seu airport.
Despite the crisis experienced by the airline sector due to the closure for months of most routes due to the pandemic, it has also provided an opportunity for smaller infrastructures such as the Andorra-La Seu airport to attract companies They have a fleet of aircraft that has the appropriate characteristics for the special conditions of the Seu infrastructure.
The project with which the Andorran Executive works with the two companies is to offer fixed routes throughout the year and not seasonal charters as had been speculated so far.. In other words, offering flights to specific cities throughout the year and not just scheduled trips in the winter season. Although the main objective is to bring skiers to the Andorran slopes, it would also be about providing an alternative for transporting goods or offering a quick means of business travel.
This project would represent a significant investment for the Andorran Ministry of Economy , and therefore it wants to involve the private sector in order to obtain financing. An option according to the Diari d'Andorra would be the Andorran Family Business (EFA), who would be interested in getting involved in the project and assuming part of the costs. The specific proposals of the two companies are not yet available and for this reason the costs of the connections are unknown , when you have the details it will be time to think about the distribution of efforts.
Be that as it may, the Andorran Government wants to have the various air routes operational before winter , if possible in the autumn. It should be remembered that the management of the Alt Urgell airport is shared between the Generalitat through Aeroports de Catalunya and Andorra. Contacts have been made with more companies both on the Andorran side and on the Generalitat side, so it is not ruled out that more companies may operate next winter.
