The high temperatures that are affecting the Alps have caused the unexpected closure of the Grande Motte glacier of the Tignes ski resort .
This year, the summer ski season opened on June 22 this year, but because of the two major heat waves (one at the end of June and beginning of July and the current one) they have left the area without snow of skiing of the Grande Motte glacier. What has forced the managers of the resort to give the summer ski season ended this Thursday afternoon.
The resort has closed just 10 days from the scheduled date (August 4). The two heat waves do not make it possible to meet the safety conditions and snow slip required. eye! This is the first time that Tignes closes its summer ski area so seasonally. But, although skiers can no longer enjoy a few descents, the glacier is still accessible to pedestrians until Friday, August 30.
