The ski resort Boí Taüll located in the Catalan province of Lerida, in bankruptcy since last April, will open next season thanks to an injection of 800,000 euros from its owner, the realtor Nozar.
The company that belongs to Nozaleda chain, is also bankrupt, but Boí Taüll has achieved that administrators approve the loan. A few days ago, representatives of the ski resort formally applied for a loan from the Mercantile Court 2 of Madrid, which is carrying out the realtor tender.
Boí Taüll declared its bankruptcy protection with a 45 million euros debt, and shortly thereafter presented a redundancy agreement (ERE) affecting ninety workers.
Since then, the company has tried to negotiate with the Generalitat, which came to offer to acquire the production unit. Finally, the winter resort will open next season without the need for public rescue, although, in parallel, it still has a pending issue with the Government. The ski resort will start negotiating now with the Institut Català de Finances (ICF), to who they owe seven million euros. Boí Taüll needs to refinance this loan to defer payments.
One of the options considered was that the Government could take the management of Boí Taüll through Railways of the Generalitat (FGC). This public company also operates the ski resorts in La Molina, Vall de Núria, Espot and Port Ainé. Last July, the regional government came to the rescue of Vallter 2000.
