The Vallnord-Pal Arinsal ski resort plans to return to figures for the 2018-2019 season. This means about 480,000 days of skiing, which would be a decrease from what had been planned for this year, which was 510,000, before the closure by COVID-19. This was confirmed by its CEO, José Marticella, who stated that
"We foresee various scenarios for the next ski season, but in all of them there is a decrease. In the most optimistic, we would go down to the 18-19 figures."
Regarding the most negative forecast made by the Massana resort, Marticella said that
"In the most unfavorable scenario, we anticipate that there will be a 20% drop compared to the numbers we made for the 2018 campaign (referring to the 18-19 campaign). However, it must be remembered that it is still too early to make forecasts , because the marketing for the next season has just started. "
On the decisions that are being made since the resort, Marticella said that
"The different scenarios in which we work will not make us change the strategic decisions that we have already made. We are a company that is used to temporality and therefore, we know how to adapt to the different situations that we find ourselves in. Thus, we can go from the 86 workers that we have right now up to the more than 600 that we can have in a peak season. "
Prudence criterion
José Marticella also discussed the investments that Vallnord-Pal Arinsal plans to make. In this sense, the CEO stated that
"We will make the investments in the resort following a criterion of prudence. Therefore, we have done everything necessary in terms of maintenance and, in addition, we will also go ahead with all the investments that we have planned on a multi-annual basis. And we will also continue with the investments in snowmaking machinery, as we have done in recent years. As for new investments, we will only carry out those that are with an immediate return and those that are considered essential. "
On the other hand, the Massana resort is already fully immersed in the summer campaign. Thus, Vallnord-Pal Arinsal plans to reopen its doors on Saturday June 27 . José Marticella confirmed the opening date and commented that
"We have been having good news lately and it looks like we will be able to do the entire summer schedule as planned."
Thus, two and a half months of opening are anticipated, since, if there are no changes during the season, the closure of the resort's summer services will be extended until September 13.
As for the facilities that will be open during the summer season at the Massana resort, the same company confirmed that the bike park would be fully operational; which in practice means that between all the circuits there will be more than 40 km for bikers to enjoy the experience that Vallnord-Pal Arinsal offers them. In addition, it confirmed that it made available to users cable cars and chair lifts , the different catering establishments that have been opening in recent times, and the Bike School . So resort sources confirmed that they had worked a series of security protocols to ensure that users could do all these activities without any risk. And precisely in this line, it is expected that no event will take place at the resorts.
