Some of the resorts in the French Pyrenees have presented this week their news in Madrid with the slogan “Wow! The Pyrenees in capital letters ”. And it is not surprising that they have done it in Spain, because more than 10% of their skiers are Spanish, a figure that in some cases reaches up to 22% as is the case of the ski resort Les Angles .
In total, the French Pyrenees has invested 17 million euros in fine-tuning its resorts for the 2019-20 ski season, the most important investments have been made in the new Skyvall Peyragudes -10 million-, the renovation of the TSD Family chairlift Pierre La Martin -3.2 million- and the modernization of the Les Pèlerins de Les Angles cable car -1.6 million-.
The Skyvall Valley Lift (gondola name) is the main novelty of the season. This is the new cable car that, in just ten minutes, connects Loudenvielle with the Peyragudes ski resort . The new ski lift does not add skiable kilometers, but that makes the connection between the town (in this case Loudenvielle) and the base of the resort much more comfortable.
The Skyvall will start from a low level, just 933 m, practically in the center of the town center of Loudenvielle, becoming an authentic foot of Peyragudes tracks, in the department of Haute-Garonne.
The ski resort of La Pierre Saint Martin has invested € 3,200,000 in the total reconstruction of the TSD Family ski lift exit resort .
In the previous season it was totally destroyed because of a serious fire - occurred on January 7 - that was about to cause the resort to close and that is because the ski lift gives access to 40% of the domain.
The third major investment of the French Pyrenees for this winter is concentrated in Les Angles . The Capcir resort opens the new Les Pèlerins gondola, which has cost 1.6 million euros. The renewed cable car has 31 cabins of new generation and although it decreases the capacity of these -from 16 goes to 10-, it also increases the speed and increasing the transport capacity.
On the Bridge of Heaven , the new catwalk is a visual and emotional experience. Contemplating the vastness of the French Pyrenees under your feet, at almost 3,000 meters high, is one of the most incredible plans you'll find this winter in Tourmalet - Pic du Midi . In addition, you can take advantage to enjoy the planetarium or the panoramic restaurant.
The snow resorts of the French Pyrenees will host many international competitions this winter, including the FIS Freetyle Ski World Championship, in Font-Romeu Pyrénées 2000, and the Open Altitoy Ternua, in Grand Tourmalet Pic du Midi .
For the fourth consecutive year, from January 7 to 11, 2020 , the French Pyrenees resort and next to the Spanish border will bring together more than 100 specialists from the world of Slope Style to participate in the FIS Freetyle Ski World Championship .
Another of the key competitions that have been presented in Madrid has been the Altitoy Ternua , a mountain skiing competition that will be held on March 7 and 8 between the French Pyrenees, Luz Ardiden, Pic du Midi and Grand Tourmalet ski resorts.
