The autumn that looked like summer is over. Last Saturday and Sunday, 4th and 5th of November, an active depression swept the entire peninsula accompanied by rain and the first abundant snowfalls of the year.
Did you think that this season was not going to be loaded with snow? Meteorology has spoken: winter makes its way with enthusiasm and the ski resorts have been put to work. This is the case of Sierra Nevada: the resort in Granada has set up its artificial snow system with the aim of giving an opening date as early as possible, although the date that has already been programmed is maintained, 25th November.
Baqueira Beret has decided to start the new season on the same date (although studying the possibility of opening 5 days before, on 20th November) and has begun to produce snow to take advantage of the weekend's snowfall. According to the Catalan Pyrenees resort, the winter complex accumulated on Monday, 6th November, between 20 and 40 centimetres of new snow at the highest levels. The low temperatures, moreover, have allowed the cannons to start producing artificial snow.
For its part, Grandvalira is also counting down the days to start the 2017-18 season and the work is well advanced. The official opening date is 2nd December, if the weather conditions allow it.
