Social Grandvalira, along with the renowned family of skiers Fernández-Ochoa, organized on Tuesday 26 March a ski solidarity which will take place on tracks Grau Roig sector with 10 families with children with disabilities. Albert Llovera, Andorra rally driver and first paraplegic to break into high-level international championships, wanted to join the cause and participate in solidarity with the family down Fernández-Ochoa. The goal of Social Grandvalira is to enable these families, many of them without financial resources, to enjoy some time in the snow.
The action has the support of Securitas Direct has given a total of 5,000 € to Social Grandvalira designed to promote and facilitate skiing among the most disadvantaged children and to help their families.
Social Grandvalira came about in 2005 with the aim of helping groups of children and youth with special health care needs and to promote sports-related projects. The social background working for initiatives to be linked to the vocation of Grandvalira: generate excitement and encourage sports, outdoor recreation and self-improvement.
Fernández-Ochoa family has members who have made history in the world of snow sports. The late Francisco Fernandez Ochoa was special slalom Olympic champion 1972 in games Sapporo (Japan) and is still the only Spanish he has achieved a gold medal in the Winter Olympics. Her sister was Olympic medalist Blanca Albertville (France).
Albert Llovera was at 17 the youngest skier to participate in the Winter Olympics. In 1985 he suffered a chronic spinal cord injury following a serious accident while participating in Skiing European Cup, but his spirit of excellence has allowed to remain active as a high-level athlete, becoming the first paraplegic rally driver to compete and win titles. Llovera currently competes in the World Rally Championship sponsored by Grandvalira.
